Juicing Getting Started Guide

Juicing is a wonderful way to achieve a healthy lifestyle. It helps to lower your cholesterol, to achieve your required nutrients, to lose weight and improve overall health but still many of us lack the motivation to start juicing. That’s why I came up with this “Juicing getting started guide“. It will help you to start juicing and do it on everyday basis.

To start juicing is always the most difficult part because firstly, you are not sure how to start, which juicer to buy, what recipes to follow and you aren’t sure whether you will be able to do it regularly or not. It took me months to finally make up my mind about which juicer to buy. Also, a good juicer is not so cheap that its just lying there on your kitchen counter-top as a show piece.

But believe me once you start doing juicing on regular basis, it will all be worth it. As with any new thing, beginning is the only difficult part because juicing will make extraordinary changes in your body and you will crave for all those vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients. Then you will be self motivated to achieve your goals of healthy lifestyle.

Here are few tips to start Juicing:

  1. Buying the Juicer – If you don’t already have one, first step is to get the juicer. There are a number of options available from $40 – $2000 in the market. To start with, there are centrifugal juicers which are good for beginners but they waste a lot of fruits and vegetable as a pulp and they don’t juice most of green vegetables and sprouts like wheat-grass. I would suggest going for Masticating juicers available from $200-$400. They make a very dry pulp which means that they squeeze most of the juice out. So all your money will be worth it in long run as you will need less produce.

  2. Buying the Produce – Now you need to buy fresh fruits and vegetable. Depending on the recipes you are following, you may like to add at least 20% of fruits in your juice especially in the beginning because fruits make juice very tasty. Make a list before going to grocery store or farmer’s market and try to get Organic produce as much as possible. Conventional produce has lot of pesticides and insecticides sprayed all over it and it also lacks high amount of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Wash your produce properly before juicing.

  3. Washing the Juicer – It is also very important to wash your juicer then and there because if you don’t wash your juicer immediately it can accumulate the bad bacteria and other gross stuff. Also it is much easier to lean right after you do juicing and just takes about 5 minutes.
  4. Storing your juice – Storing the juice is generally not recommended because the moment juice is out it starts oxidizing which takes out most of the nutrients. Also it tastes best if you drink right away. If you have to store it, store in an air-tight glass container in a dark and cool environment. Finish your juice with 24-48 hours. It can stay maximum of 72 hours as homemade juice doesn’t have any preservatives which, by the way, is the best part .
